This is brewmaster and owner Tim Gallon adding fresh hops to our Harvest Hops Ale. The hops were grown locally and added to the beer within hours of picking. "I take every chance I get to incorporate something local into the beer. This is what makes a local brewery so special."
Black Bear Brewing is a family owned and operated craft brewery, roastery and tap room. Our beers are available on draft at many bars and restaurants across the state of Maine as well as at the brewery two tap rooms.
The original location is located in the heart of downtown Orono, at 19 Mill St. We installed a 10bbl brewhouse in 2007 and began operation in 2008. In October of 2012, we opened a small tap room where we serve pints and sell Growlers. We brew a variety of beers and styles for our tap room. We opened our second location on Exchange Street in Downtown Bangor in April of 2018, providing the opportunity to open a kitchen and further our expansion and dreams.
In late 2018, we started roasting coffee in our Orono location, offering our local communities delicious, mindfully sourced, fresh roasted coffee. We sell whole bean or custom ground coffee by the pound at both locations.
We are a small family owned and operated craft brewery. We originally opened in 2004, retaining the 14th small brewery license in Maine and operating out of an old local pub, The Bear Brew. We spent our days slowly growing our business and family. Our son, who is now old enough to legally drink, spent much time before and after school 'at the Brewery' and has moved from hanging out to slinging food and beers!
